Massai Mara Game Drive 4

We stopped and watched Hippos for a while; they have rather large mouths, don’t they. You can see a Lilac-breasted Roller, a Sectary Bird, and a beautiful(?) Wildebeeste. Well, lions think they are attractive.

This could easily have been a hippo drive and would have been until we encountered a leopard with a fresh kill as we were coming back for the day. The park (Masai Mara is a National Park) closes at 6:00 and it was getting near to that when we saw the Leopard.

And here is the thrill of this drive! We came across this Leopard which had just killed a Thompson’s Gazelle shortly before we got there. It was unusal enough just to find a Leopard let alone one with dinner. So we watched for a while and tried not to feel like we had bad manners. If you carefully, you can see a small pile of fur under the cat. As we watched, it was pulling the fur off the gazelle before eating it. Cuts down on bothersome fur-balls that way.
